Writing to describe with Year 10.

funfair

At the start of the year, all of our Year 10 students produced a piece of descriptive writing.

They had a choice of two tasks: either to write a description inspired by the picture of the fairground above, or to write a description of a person they admire.

You can find a selection of their work in the comments on this post.

If you’d like to add some of your own, feel free.

Other students can then use it for inspiration for future descriptive tasks.

A choice has to be made. The tea cups? The helter-skelter? The carousel? Or even the big wheel? A blur of lights was enticing but what about the offering whiff of the food stalls? All offering a range of choices. The wispy balls of cotton candy are simply mouth-watering; sugar coated, golden goodness is offered in doughnuts; sizzling hot dogs coated in ketchup. All of these tastes welcoming people in with just their scent.

The night’s air was kind to the flushed faces of the crowds, warmly caressing their cheeks; it was demanding trying to absorb everything that was going on, as people whizzed by. A buzz of excitement bustled through the fare ground whilst screams of joy tumbled off of every ride.

The colossal sized Ferris wheel towered over every thing that dared face it… Whom who dared ride it; can’t turn back once they are through the gate. Lighting up the fair the illuminous white lights shone so bright; they blinded everyone who gazed upon them.

The brisk breeze charged through the clusters of people, like a bull. People cued for rides as if they were queuing for the way to heaven and hell, excitement and fear were the only expressions that sat on their faces. Laughter was also a common tune that strung peoples ears that night however screams still managed to override that joyful sound. The tiffany blue and sanguine lights blinded peoples bare eyes.

The hypothermic air sent chills up everyone’s spines, causing them to be wrapped up tightly like presents in thick, warm clothing. For an autumn night in October, the wind was unnecessarily ice cold. Thunder laughed menacingly in the distance, making sure it was going out of its own way to ruin the massive flock of people’s night. Lightening forked its way to the ground evilly, causing deafening screams from a group of teenagers. The brisk breeze slowly became a light rain but that didn’t stop anyone from enjoying themselves.

Teenagers laughing and joking with their friends, waiting to go one the most ear – splitting and terrifying ride in the whole theme park. Drinking pop, eating hot dogs and candy floss making their way through the line and crowds.

However, it was a very busy night where families met to enjoy the loud, exciting evening. It was a blast, the children were running around playing, laughing and going on the rides, making the night even more fun.

“Do not enter” was presented on various locations, this was a massive eas to go in… furthermore do you fait temptation? As the night slowly scuttled on, they needed a whole different feel to the park.

Pale skin; shaking hands. Frail in their structure, but omnipotent in their grip. Soft in a Mother’s touch, hardened in a handshake and omniscient in a lucid way. He reaches out, the fine deep sapphire woollen coat (tailored to his bitter-sweet frame) revealing its libertarian mission. He brought the well washed and overly perfect golden rimmed glass towards his still mouth- which is as eloquent as a philosopher’s but as worn as a parents.

A Whirr and a click travelled through the suffocating darkness, introducing the glaring neon lights as they performed their first act of the night. Bright reds and piercing yellows lit up the faces of people who watched in awe as the gates began to open: the extraordinary began to start. The scintillating lights, suspended on everything the eye could reach, acting as a torch- a ray of artificial sunlight- in the dark black sea

Upsettingly, his backstory is tragic; hard times dealing with depression, anxiety and also a sorrowful past including abuse. His beautiful daughters are a pleasure to be around, they are so proud of their father: he deserves it. Fortunately, his daughters aren’t old enough to know his awful, dark and crestfallen backstory which shall not be brought up for a necessarily lasting amount of beaming time spent with his amazing family.

Arnie was an exceedingly intelligent man. His wisdom was almost blaringly apparent with the way he carried himself – silently and calmly, with brilliant posture; wherever he moved, it was with unimaginable elegance, and it seemed as though an essence of purity and serenity emanated from his very skin. Sweeping across his head was a well-maintained quiff of sandy brown, which, when coupled with the young number of fading freckles that were peppered about his nose, gave him a nursery-fresh infantile appearance. His eyes were a startling emerald green that one was almost able to swim in, and which contrasted greatly to his soft pale skin. Altogether, Arnie would not typically be described as very attractive, nonetheless, he bore an effortless charm that simply could not be extinguished.

Booming noises came from the distance. The sound of young children screaming and loud music tickled my ear drums. As I passed through the crowded gates, a sense of adrenaline hit my body. The towering ferris wheel stood tall and proud, overlooking the chaotic funfair. A swarm of people hurried by, like a herd of wild animals chasing after their prey.

Music thumped and shivered through my body, making voices and sounds muffle. A sharp ringing came soon after, and the misty sheet covered my eyes. Encouraging my body to trip and stumble. A collision of lights fade into one as the steps of people became loud, thunderous beats. The thick mud crawl and cover any existing life on top, creating dark monstrous quicksand.

The enormous loud Fair was absolutely fascinating every ‘SINGLE’ second of it! So you must be wondering what made this fair better than an average normal fair on an average normal day? Well the atmosphere was wild. As soon as I went through the tall red shiny gates. I gazed up and at all the shiny colorful lights. I just knew this was going to be a great night!!

We’d all got a wristband to say we could go on all the rides and that we were all tall enough for them, we should’ve got on most but Jack needed to go on his tiptoes. It was like an ant maze but with rides everywhere you look, everyone running around like headless chickens.

The giant ferris wheel stood out from the rest, being the biggest structure in the park. Lights emitted from every angle, the slow turn cast shadows on discarded parts of the ground. It felt like I was in a trance, watching it go round and round and round. People around me looked like they had been there for hours, being almost hypnotized by the constant spin.

As I look around, the big wheel stood loud and proud in the centre of the fair. It was all I could see. I had to go on it. The night sky was amazing the stares out shinning as bright as light. The moon out to say hi to everyone who was out. The trees swayed side to side with every motion from the orbiter. The smell of cotton candy wafted around the air lingering by you with every step you take.

Then as we were on the big wheel. It started jamming in places. We thought it was the guy messing about and that was that as we were on the Waltesers the guy spinning had a strange possessive eye colour to him and he was acting all weird.

It is one of the best theme parks in England with rides as bright as the sun and over some amazing views. Some of the rides are almost as old as Big Ben. It is also home to one of the smallest but most fearful roller coaster in Europe. With it reaching speeds up to 120 mph. The park was built in 1970 and then destroyed by strong winds and huge waves which was as strong as metal. Since then the park has been rebuilt. It also has one of the oldest and biggest Farris wheels which goes up over 100 foot and has some breath-taking views.

The fair was in town; the fair was illuminated the sky like fireworks on bonfire night. The bravest people would go and try to touch the sky on the fairest wheel.
